For decades, one thing quietly protected businesses.
The cost of understanding a contract.
If a customer had a disagreement, they usually had two choices: accept the outcome or pay an attorney to review the agreement. For many people, it simply wasn’t worth the time or expense.
That has changed.
Today, someone can upload a contract into AI, explain what happened, and receive a thoughtful analysis in minutes. AI doesn’t replace lawyers or judges, but it has dramatically lowered the cost of understanding a contract.
Most businesses aren’t feeling this shift yet.
But I believe it’s coming much sooner than we realize.
My advice to every business owner is simple:
Optimize your contracts for AI.
Not because AI decides cases.
Because AI will increasingly be the first thing reading your contract.
Every ambiguity.
Every inconsistency.
Every unnecessary sentence.
Every loophole.
Will become easier to find.
Write your contract so clearly that your customer, an attorney, an arbitrator, a judge, and an AI are all likely to reach substantially the same conclusion.
The companies that thrive won’t have the longest contracts.
They’ll have the clearest ones.
The best contract isn’t the one that wins in court.
It’s the one that prevents the dispute from ever starting.
